This is a project I did aimed at helping older children or pre-teens in dealing with the aftermath of a suicide. The topic is a sensitive one which people find hard to discuss with family and friends. The story involves a young girl, Charley, whose brother has recently died. The story deals with the isolation and confusion that children of this age experience when their world is turned upside down. Charley tells us her story and how she meets a friend of her brother called Morena. This character is essentially a personification of death who has come to answer Charley's questions and help her start the healing process. Morena then gives Charley a notebook to draw or write down all her feeling and questions. In addition to the story book is an accompanying notebook which the reader can then use to collect memories and thoughts of their loved one. This is a useful tool for adults/parents when trying to talk to their child when dealing with such a sensitive subject.
